Al Sadr playing a role in Democratic Politics

In the AP today there was a story about several rocket attacks on the green zone. Apparently a rebel group of Shiites have broken away from Al Sadr and refused to abide by his cease-fire. But, what interested me most was this:

"The Al-Sadr cease-fire was extended until the 15th of Shaban, a reference to the Islamic month before Ramadan, which would mean mid-August."

It made me wonder if even Al-Sadr was interfering in the nomination processes and elections of the United States. First they go quiet so we can nominate in inexperienced commander and a "stay for 100 years" guy, then in August they can start blowing things up again so that the hawk wins.

If Iraq looks like a firestorm in the fall, America won't be able to elect a candidate with no armed services or foreign policy experience and that will be a sad, sad day for all of us.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me. I feel like the media has hijacked the election, why not the terrorist too.

There are precedents for it. (2.00 / 1)

Remember the bin Laden tape of 2004? It probably decided the 2004 election, and many CIA analysts have concluded that he wanted Bush to win.

Personally, I think Sadr is trying to consolidate his own power-base among Shi'ites. If he goes to war now, Petraeus will temporarily team up with the Badrists, the Sunnis will put off their inevitable 're-awakening' (i.e., starting to shoot at Shi'ites and Americans with the guns we gave them to go after the splinter group calling themselves al Qaeda).

Re: Al Sadr playing a role in Democratic Politics (none / 0)

Does everything have to somehow translate into something to support or oppose one of our Presidential candidates?  I find this very far-fetched.

You should change your headline: (none / 0)

                     al Sadr for Obama

Remember when Rove spun that bin Laden was for Kerry?

You sound just like Rove!

Congratulations!

I am so beyond belief about what the AMERICAN main stream media is doing...so why not consider how others might be playing us? Your thesis is worth a look...susanclare
