Hillary Clinton and One Africa

Every day I'm impressed by the reasoned and rapid response Hillary has to events occurring here at home and abroad. I believe the man who said he met her once and she was off the charts smart. It's as though she has a keen comprehension of the social, political and economic pressures and realities of every event and what the appropriate American response should be.

The woman awes and inspires me.

Below is the text of her One Africa message:

2/21/2008
Senator Clinton Statement on ONE Campaign Africa Petition

"Today I received a petition from more than 85,000 Americans who are members of the ONE campaign. I applaud their activism and share their urgent concern for the challenges of poverty and AIDS, especially in Africa. I want to assure the ONE campaign and all Americans that I am committed to aggressively combating poverty and disease around the world. I support the bipartisan renewal of the PEPFAR program, and as President I will go further. I have called for spending at least $50 billion over the next five years to fight AIDS worldwide. I have also called for spending $10 billion over five years to get kids in school around the world, and have committed to the bold goal of ending malaria deaths on the continent of Africa by the end of my second term. I am also committed to visiting Africa during my first term as President, to see the progress of our efforts and to assess first hand the necessary strategies to combat disease and poverty. I look forward to working with the ONE campaign and other organizations when I am President to ensure that addressing the needs of the world's poorest countries is an essential component of our nation's foreign policy."

My thoughts: Vote Hillary. We've been suffering a long time. Let's have a brilliant, compassionate warrior to fight for the Democratic agenda that has been trashed, along with our lives, for the past 7 years.

Me, too... (2.00 / 3)

Hillary's strength of character and her commitment to helping people put a smile on my face as well. :-)

No way, no how, no McCain! :-)

Hillary has only one agenda (2.00 / 2)

to bring a better life to as many people as she could.

Re: Hillary Clinton and One Africa (2.00 / 2)

A wonderful (and highly ambitious!) statement. How can people wonder why we support her?

Even John McCain lusts after teh engels.

Less inspiring is that she slammed Obama (none / 0)

for proposing doubling foreign aid to fight poverty internationally.  She came at him from the right, arguing that he wouldn't be able to pay for it.

Kind of more mixed than the diary makes it out to be, no?

she wants results (2.00 / 1)

she doesn't want to do the moral but possibly ineffective thing, the west has been doing that forever, and Africa grows worse and worse off.  Her plans are always tied to results that she asks all of us to hold her accountable for.  She sees the big picture, not just throwing around more tired platitudes and 'signs' of concern.

Re: Hillary Clinton and One Africa (2.00 / 1)

Isn't she just amazing? It's such a shame that the main stream media doesn't cover press releases and statements like this, but has coverage of the crowd going wild when the other candidate blows his nose.

Several things distress me about this years campaign. Most notably the biased reporting of the press, that sexism is still a powerful negative force in society, and that the GOP has succeeded in interfering and having sway in the democratic nomination process. Oh, and that the DNC has been so short-sighted and confused that they are alientating and irritating two absolutely critical states for the fall.

This was our year for criminey sakes. We've been waiting for this for 8 years. As a friend of mine said, "We were supposed to be so happy that Bush was going to be gone and that we were going to win the Whitehouse...how the heck did we get here?"

Go to Hillaryclinton.com and donate and volunteer to make phone calls.  She needs your help.  If she doesnt get it we are all in trouble.

Hillary has been an advocate for human rights around the world. I believe she will do more to end the suffering of the poor and war-torn, especially in Africa. She will be a President of the people.
